WARRIOR
MENS SOCCER FALLS IN SEASON OPENER
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA The Lycoming College mens soccer team fell short in
their opening game against Gallaudet University, Saturday
afternoon. The Bison defeated the Warriors in the first game
of the third annual Lycoming Kickoff Classic by a score of
2-1. Lycoming had an early lead, scoring the first goal of the
game within the first minute of play. However, Gallaudet
answered back late in the second half with two goals less than
one minute apart.
Sophomore
midfielder Troy Watson
(North East, MD/ Rising Sun) led off the game for the
Warriors scoring only a minute into the first half. He
was assisted by fellow sophomore Jeff
Kocher (Churchville,MD/ C. Milton Wright).
For
the Bison, sophomore Mike
Higgins (Potomac, MD/ Model sec. School for the Deaf)
began the rally with an unassisted goal 87 minutes into the
contest. Junior Kiombo
Nsumbu (Kinshasa,Congo/ Nduana Ndinga Institute for the Deaf) followed
with the game winner at the 88 minute mark. He was assisted by
fellow junior Nathan
Boyes (Salem,OR/ Oregon School for the Deaf).
Jason
Fesler (Carlisle,PA/Cumberland Valley)
recorded four saves in goal for Lycoming. Daniel
Wathen (Houston,TX/ Dulles) recorded 5 saves for Gallaudet.
In
the afternoon second game, Susquehanna University tallied four
second period goals to defeat Neumann College 4-0. Caleb
Woolever (Jr./Montoursville, PA; Montoursville) led the
Crusaders with two goals in the game.
The
Kickoff Classic will continue on Sunday with Lycoming playing
Neumann at 11 a.m. and Susquehanna challenging Gallaudet at
1:30 p.m.
