MEN’S SOCCER WINS EIGHTH CONSECUTIVE MATCH
NEW YORK,
N.Y. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team made
history, Sunday afternoon, defeating Baruch College, 6-3, to
extend their winning streak to eight matches. The streak in
the longest in the 46-year history of the men’s soccer
program surpassing the previous mark of seven set in both 1992
and 1994. The Warriors are now 8-1 overall this season.
Lycoming
wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Andrew Rampulla
(So./Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Cumberland Valley) scored an
unassisted goal in the first minute of play. Troy Watson
(So./North East, Md.; Rising Sun) quickly extended the
advantage to 2-0 with a goal in the ninth minute off an assist
by Paul Zippel (So./Cherry Hill, N.J.; Cherry Hill).
Rampulla tallied his second goal of the game in the 23rd
minute. Joe Balduino (Sr./Washington, N.J.; North Warren
Reg.) assisted on the play. Jeff Kocher
(So./Churchville, Md.; C. Milton Wright) added one more
goal just prior to the half to make to score 4-0 in favor of
the Warriors. Jason Mathews (Jr./North Wales, Pa.;
Christopher Dock) recorded the assist.
In
the second half, Kocher added two more goals, both off passes
from Balduino, to push Lycoming lead to 6-0. Baruch made
things interesting at the end by scoring three goals in the
final 10 minutes, but it was not enough as time ran out with
the final score 6-3.
Jason
Fesler (Jr./Carlisle, Pa.; Cumberland Valley)
recorded seven saves in goal for the Warriors, while allowing
three goals.
Lycoming
is at home for their next match, hosting conference rival
DeSales University on Tuesday, September 30. Game time is
scheduled for 4 p.m.
