LYCOMING MEN’S SOCCER RECORDS SECOND STRAIGHT SHUTOUT

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team recorded their second consecutive shutout, Sunday afternoon, defeating SUNY-Purchase 5-0. The Warriors scored four goals in the first half and added one more in the second half while holding the Panthers to just 10 shots in the match. Lycoming improves to 13-4 on the season.

Jason Mathews (Jr./North Wales, Pa.; Christopher Dock) tallied the first goal of the contest five minutes in off an assist by Ryan Wertz (So./Middletown, Pa.; Middletown). Dan Jackson (Fr./Windsor, N.J.; Lawrence) added a second goal in the 30^th minute. Paul Zippel (So./Cherry Hill, N.J.; Cherry Hill) assisted on the play. Ryan Burgett (So./Carlisle, Pa,; Carlisle) extended the Warriors’ advantage to 3-0 with a goal in the 40^th minute. Ryan Wertz and Jeff Kocher (So./Churchville, Md.; C. Milton Wright) assisted on the score. Ian Kauffman (Sr./Lewisberry, Pa.; Red Land) added one more goal just as the first half ended. Zippel recorded his second assist of the game on the play.

In the second half, Chris Mason (So./Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Cumberland Valley) chipped in a goal off an assist by Stephen Ajayi (Fr./Bensalem, Pa.; Bensalem) in the 65^th minute.

Jason Fesler (Jr./Carlisle, Pa.; Cumberland Valley) made five saves in 75 minutes in goal for Lycoming. Mike Byerly (Fr./Lewisburg, Pa.; Lewisburg) played the final 15 minutes in net but was not forced to make a save.

The Warriors will return to conference competition on Wednesday, October 29, when they host the University of Scranton. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
