MEN’S SOCCER DROPS CONFERENCE MATCH TO DREW
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team fell to Drew
University, Sunday afternoon, in an important Freedom Conference
match up. The Rangers, who came into the match undefeated in the
conference, scored two goals in the second half to defeat the
Warriors, 2-0. Lycoming falls to 11-4 overall this season and
2-3 within the conference. Drew improves to 11-1-2 and 4-0-1.
Neither team
could generate much offense during a scoreless first half. Drew
took the lead in the second half with a goal off the foot of
freshman Brian Dempsey
(Trucksville, Pa.; Wyoming Seminary) 60 minutes into the
game. Derek Swanner
(So./Monroe Township, N.J.; Christian Brothers) received an
assist on the goal. At
the 86th minute the second goal was scored by Swanner,
who was assisted by senior midfielder Michael
Sofolarides (Lindenhurst, N.Y.; Lindenhurst)
Goalkeeper Peter
Boyer (Haworth, N.J./ Dwight-Englewood) recorded the shutout
for the Rangers blocking six shots including one penalty kick
late in the second half. Jason Fesler (Jr./Carlisle, Pa.;
Cumberland Valley) made eight saves in goal for the
Warriors.
Lycoming will
play their next match at Marywood University on October 23rd.
Kickoff is scheduled at 3:30 p.m.
