Men's Soccer

LYCOMING MEN’S SOCCER WINS POLYTECHNIC TOURNAMENT IN CONVINCING FASHION

BROOKLYN, NY – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team won the championship game in the Polytechnic Tournament, Sunday afternoon, by defeating host Polytechnic University, 9-1. The Warriors tallied four goals in the first period and five in the second, while allowing the Bluejays just one score. Lycoming improves to 5-1 overall with their fifth consecutive victory.

Phil Kratochvil (So./Bel Air, Md.; C. Milton Wright) recorded a hat-trick to lead the Warriors with three goals. He also added one assist. Andrew Rampulla (So./Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Cumberland Valley) chipped in two goals after scoring four goals the day before. Kory Wertz (Sr./Middletown, Pa.; Middletown), Jeff Kocher (So./Churchville, Md.; C. Milton Wright), Paul Zippel (So./Cherry Hill, N.J.; Cherry Hill), and Joe Balduino (Sr./Washington, N.J.; Warren Hills Reg.) each accounted for one goal.

Kocher also tallied three assists, while Mike Ward (So./Phoenix, Md.; Loyola Blakefield) and Eric Shur (Fr./Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Cumberland Valley) each assisted on one score.

Jason Fesler (Jr./Carlisle, Pa.; Cumberland Valley) played 70 minutes in goal for Lycoming. He made two saves and allowed one goal. Mike Byerly (Fr./Lewisburg, Pa.; Lewisburg) played the final 20 minutes, also making two saves.  

Six Warriors were named to the all-tournament team. Rampulla was named the most valuable player and was joined on the team by Kocher, Kratochvil, Balduino, Kory Wertz, and Ryan Wertz (So./Middletown, Pa.; Middletown).

The Warriors are in action again on Wednesday, September 17, when they host Juniata College at 4:30 p.m.
