MEN’S SOCCER DEFEATS LINCOLN
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team defeated Lincoln
University, Thursday afternoon, in a physical contest that saw
29 total fouls and eight cards handed out. Each team tallied one
goal in the first period, but the Warriors added a pair of goals
in the final five minutes of the match to secure the 3-1
victory. Lycoming improves to 3-1 with the win, while the Lions
start the season at 0-1.
Lincoln
found the scoreboard first, posting a goal in the 6th
minute. Davis Suah was credited with the unassisted tally.
Despite
numerous opportunities, the Warriors were unable to find the
back of the net until the final minute of the period. Junior Jason
Mathews (North Wales, Pa./Christopher Dock) knotted the
score at 1-1 with just 25 seconds showing on the clock off an
assist by sophomore Jeff Kocher (Churchville, Md./ C. Milton
Wright).
Kocher
went on to score the game-winning goal in the 85th
minute off a corner kick by sophomore Ryan Wertz (Middletown,
Pa./ Middletown). Just
three minutes later, senior Ian Kauffman (Lewisberry, Pa./
Red Land) added an insurance goal off a penalty kick.
Jason
Fesler (Jr./Carlisle, Pa.; Cumberland Valley)
recorded the win in goal for Lycoming, making one save. David
Chase made five saves in net for the Lions.
The
next match for the Warriors will be away at the Polytechnic
Tournament in New York City on September 13th and 14th.
