WARRIOR MEN’S
SOCCER SHUTS OUT BRYN ATHYN
BRYN ATHYN, PA
– The Lycoming College men’s soccer team improved to 3-0-1 on the
season with their second shutout of the 2002 campaign. The
Warriors scored a goal in the eighth minute of play and added a
pair of penalty kicks later in the game for insurance. Bryn Athyn
opens the year at 0-1.
Lycoming got
the only goal they needed just 7:56 into the contest. Jason
Mathews (Jr./North
Wales, PA;
Christopher Dock)
split the
defense with a pass that Andrew Rampulla (Fr./Mechanicsburg,
PA;
Cumberland
Valley)
one-timed into the back of the net.
The Warriors
added their second goal just prior to the half when Ian
Kauffman (Jr./Lewisberry, PA;
Red Land)
converted a penalty kick. Junior Joe Balduino (Washington,
NJ; Warren Hills Regional)
also scored on a penalty kick for Lycoming’s third goal after he
was fouled from behind in the box.
Jason Fesler
(So./Carlisle, PA; Cumberland Valley),
Will Anthony (So./Schuylkill Haven, PA; Nativity), and
Sean Cunningham (Fr./Pitman, NJ; Pitman) combined for the
shutout in goal.
“It was good
to get another win and maintain the momentum we’ve picked up from
our early success,” said Head Coach Scott Kennell. “But we know
it’s a long season and things are going to get tougher, so we’re
going to continue to work hard and try to build upon this start.”
