WARRIOR MEN’S
SOCCER FALLS BY ONE TO DELAWARE VALLEY
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College men’s soccer team hosted Delaware
Valley College, Saturday afternoon, for a Freedom Conference
contest. The Warriors came back from two goals down to tie the
match, but could never take the lead eventually falling to the
Aggies, 3-2.
Delaware Valley
jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first half on goals by Ryan
Ponnwitz and Matt Gilson. Mike Mayne assisted on the first goal
and Ponnwitz assisted on the second.
Chris Mason
(Fr./Mechanicsburg, PA; Cumberland Valley)
got Lycoming on the board with a goal with just 1:16 remaining in
the first half. Troy Watson (Fr./North East, MD; Rising Sun)
assisted on the play. Mason also added the tying goal 13 minutes
into the second half of an assist by Jeff Kocher
(Fr./Churchville, MD; C. Milton Wright).
The Aggies,
however, tallied one more goal off a free kick by Mick Hannan
midway through the second half to put the final at 3-2.
Jason Fesler
(So./Carlisle, PA; Cumberland Valley)
made eight saves in goal for the Warriors. Chris Zirpoli made
seven saves in net for Delaware Valley.
“Once again our
inexperience came back to haunt us,” said Lycoming head coach
Scott Kennell. “We came out flat and gave up two goals –
something a more mature team wouldn’t let happen. That being
said, I am proud of the way we fought back to tie the game up.
We’ll look at this game as another learning experience and use
it to help us get better.”
Lycoming travels
to Pitt-Johnstown for their next match on Saturday, October 12.
