SOCCER DEFEATS VALLEY FORGE
PHEONIXVILLE, PA
The Lycoming College mens soccer team traveled to Valley
Forge Christian College, Thursday afternoon, for a non-conference
match. The Warriors got back on the winning track, defeating
Valley Forge 5-2. Lycoming
improves to 4-3-2 with the win, while Valley Forge falls to 3-3-1.
Chris Mason
(Fr./Mechanicsburg, PA; Cumberland Valley)
got the Warriors on the board first, scoring a breakaway goal off
a pass from Jeff Kocher (Fr./Churchville, MD; C. Milton Wright).
Paul Zippel (Fr./Cherry Hill, NJ; Cherry Hill) added a
second goal to put Lycoming up 2-0. Mason assisted on the play.
Valley Forge
broke the shutout with a first-half goal of their own, but Ian
Kauffman (Jr./Lewisberry, PA; Red Land) gave the Warriors a
3-1 advantage at the half by connecting on a direct kick from 25
yards out.
In the second
half, the Warriors extended their lead to four on goals by Kocher
and Andrew Rampulla (Fr./Mechanicsburg, PA; Cumberland Valley).
Kocher scored off a corner kick by Brad Martin (So./Annapolis,
MD; Broadneck), and Rampulla put home an assist by Joe
Balduino (Jr./Washington, NJ; Warren Hill Regional).
Valley Forge
scored on a penalty kick to bring the final score to 5-2.
Jason Fesler
(So./Carlisle, PA; Cumberland Valley)
played the first half in goal for the Warriors, making four saves.
Will Anthony (So./Schuylkill Haven, PA; Nativity) and Sean
Cunningham (Fr./Pitman, NJ; Pitman) split the second half each
making two saves.
Lycoming returns
to conference play on Saturday when they travel to Drew
University. Drew is the defending conference champion and is
currently ranked 18th in the nation.
