LYCOMING MEN’S SOCCER COMES UP
SHORT IN
“BATTLE FOR THE BOOT”
SELINSGROVE,
PA – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team traveled to nearby
Selinsgrove, Wednesday afternoon, to take on rival Susquehanna
University in the second annual “Battle of the Boot”. For the
second consecutive year, the Warriors fell behind early and
could not come all the way back, falling to the Crusaders 2-1.
Lycoming’s record drops to 3-1-1 on the season, while
Susquehanna improves to 2-2.
Caleb
Woolever got the home team on the board first with a goal in the
fifth minute off an assist by Stephan Oluwole. After carrying a
1-0 lead into the half, Oluwole would put the Crusaders up 2-0
with a goal of his own in the 58th minute. Brandon
Emory recorded an assist on the play.
Despite the
score, Lycoming had controlled most of the play, but had been
unable to find the back of the net. Freshman Vance Kennedy (Port
Royal, PA; Juniata)
finally broke through in the 64th minute to cut
Susquehanna’s lead in half. Kennedy beat the goalkeeper after
taking a pass from Jeff Kocher (Fr./Churchville, MD; C.
Milton Wright). The Warriors continued to keep pressure on
the Crusaders the remainder of the game, but could never find
the game-tying score. Jason Fesler (So./Carlisle, PA;
Cumberland Valley)
made two saves in goal for Lycoming.
“I’m
disappointed in the outcome. We made some mistakes that put us
behind, but we continued to work hard and we had some
opportunities to tie it up near the end,” said head coach Scott
Kennell. “This is young team so we knew coming in there would be
some growing pains and some tough losses like this. Now we just
have to see how the team responds to a little adversity.”
The Warriors
are at home for their next match, hosting Albright College on
Saturday, September 14, at 2 p.m.
