WARRIOR MEN’S LACROSSE STRUGGLES AT WIDENER

CHESTER, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team traveled to Widener University, Saturday afternoon, to take on the five-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference champions. The Pioneers quickly reminded the Warriors why they are still the team to beat in the conference, defeating Lycoming 21-11. The loss drops the Warriors to 6-3 overall and 3-1 within the MAC. Widener improves to 3-5 and 2-0.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage to start the game. They then used a run of nine unanswered goals, beginning late in the first half and carrying over into the fourth quarter, to build an insurmountable lead. Lycoming tallied two goals in the first quarter, four in the second and five in the fourth, but could not keep pace with their hosts.

Sang Duong (Fr./Havertown; Haverford Township) led the Warriors with four goals and a pair of assists. Senior Michael Bonnes (Ridley Park; Ridley Senior) also scored four goals while assisting on another. Ryan Bergstrom (So./Hagerstown, MD; Smithsburg), Todd Brysiak (Sr./Aston; Ridley Senior) and Todd Riescher (Sr./Delray Beach, FL; West Morris Mendham) each added a goal as well.

Jared Jankowski (Sr./Boonton, NJ; Boonton) played the majority of game goal for Lycoming, making 12 saves and allowing 18 goals.

“We just have to play a lot better than we did today in order to beat a good team. This was our worst performance of the season, they beat us in every aspect of the game,” said Lycoming head coach Gene Peluso. “We still have some tough lacrosse ahead of us, so we have a lot of work to do to get this thing back on track in the hopes of meeting Widener again in the playoffs.”

The Warriors return to action on Monday, April 9, when they host King’s College for another MAC contest.
