BARNES NAMED
ALL-AMERICAN FOR MEN’S LACROSSE
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.
– Lycoming College senior long-stick middie Mark Barnes
(Elmira, NY; Corning-Painted Post East) has earned
All-American status for the third consecutive year.
Barnes was
recognized as an honorable mention on the 2001 STX/USILA
All-American team. He was also an honorable mention on the 1999
and 2000 teams.
“We’re very
excited for Mark and his family. Being named to the team for a
third straight season is not only a great honor for him, but also
for his teammates and the lacrosse staff here at Lycoming,” said
Warriors’ head coach Gene Peluso. “It is truly a testament to
how good Mark is compared to the top midfielders in the entire
nation. He has played a huge role on our team for four years –
winning face-offs, picking up groundballs and leading our
transition offense. Coaches have recognized that through awards
such as this. Once again, we’re extremely happy to have Mark
named an All-American.”
Barnes was also
named a Middle Atlantic Conference first-team all-star for the
fourth consecutive season in 2001. During the season, he led
Lycoming with 162 groundballs and 162 face-off victories and
recorded eight goals and 16 assists for the Warriors. Barnes also
reached a pair of career milestones during the 2001 campaign,
tallying his 700th face-off win and his 600th
groundball.
The
Warriors went 11-3 overall and 7-1 within the MAC during the
regular season to claim the title of regular season conference
champion. The team finished the season with a mark of 12-4 after
going 1-1 in the MAC tournament to claim runner-up honors
