LYCOMING MEN’S LACROSSE MOVES TO 4-1

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Mike Bonnes (Sr./Ridley Park; Ridley Senior) scored five goals and Dave Dormond (Fr./Bryn Mawr; Haverford Township) added four as the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team overcame a four-goal deficit to defeat host DeSales University, Sunday afternoon in a Middle Atlantic Conference contest. The Warriors, ranked 24th in the nation improved their record to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the MAC. The Bulldogs fell to 3-2 overall and 1-1 within the conference.

Lycoming started cold for the second consecutive game, falling behind 4-0 after the first quarter. Things turned the Warriors way, however, in the second period as they outscored DeSales 7-0 to carry a three-goal lead into the half. Lycoming then put the game away with a 6-0 third quarter.

Freshman Sang Duong (Havertown; Haverford Township) was the top point-scorer for the Warriors with three goals and five assists. Buddy Temple (Jr./Webster, NY; Webster Senior) added two goals and an assist. Chris Rausch (Sr./Wilmington, DE; Salesianum), Todd Brysiak (Sr./Aston; Ridley Senior) and Ryan Bergstrom (So./Hagerstown, MD; Smithsburg) each scored a goal for Lycoming.

In goal for the Lycoming, Jared Jankowski (Sr./Boonton, NJ; Boonton) played 50 minutes, allowing five goals and making 10 saves. Christian Willaum (Fr./New Milford, CT; New Milford) played 10 minutes, making a pair of saves and giving up a goal.

Taylor Fields, Joe Meenan and Brendan Bray scored two goals apiece for DeSales. Joe Devine made 27 saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

“We’re happy to start the year at 4-1. It’s the first time in our program’s history that we have won four of our first five games,” said Lycoming head coach Gene Peluso. “Also, this was a conference win and every conference game is important. We are a little concerned about our slow starts these past two games, so we’ll have to address that over the next tow days as we prepare for a our home opener against a very good Alfred team.”

Lycoming will open their home schedule on Wednesday, March 28 against Alfred University at 4 p.m.
