MEN’S LACROSSE TRIPLES UP ELMIRA

ALFRED, N.Y. – Three Warriors each scored three goals as the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team defeated Elmira College 15-5 in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon. The win improves Lycoming’s record to 2-1 on the season. Elmira falls to 1-3.

The Warriors jumped out to an early lead against the Soaring Eagles, scoring three goals in the first quarter. However, the offense really got going in the second quarter as Lycoming posted seven goals to Elmira’s two. Sophomore Ryan Bergstrom (Hagerstown, MD; Smithsburg) led the offensive outburst, tallying all three of his goals in the period.

Freshman Sang Duong (Havertown; Haverford Township) led the Warriors with a total of five points on three goals and two assists. Buddy Temple (Jr./Webster, NY; Webster Senior) also scored three goals in the game. Senior Mike Bonnes (Ridley Park; Ridley Senior) added a pair of goals and an assist.

Jared Jankowski (Sr./Boonton, NJ; Boonton) played the majority of the game in goal for Lycoming, making 11 saves while allowing four goals. Sean Powers (Fr./Drexel Hill; Monsignor Bonner) also saw time in net making one save and allowing one goal.

“We appreciate getting a win against a traditionally strong program such as Elmira,” said Lycoming head coach Gene Peluso. “Our guys played a step above them today, especially offensively. Ryan Bergstrom came off the bench and provided a spark for our offense in the second quarter. He really played a great game. Todd Riescher also played well defensively. He had a specific assignment and performed it extremely well.”

Lycoming will play again on Wednesday, March 21 when they travel to the University of Scranton for their first conference game of the season.
