Men's Lacrosse

LYCOMING MEN’S LACROSSE TOPS FDU-MADISON;
MOVES CLOSER TO PLAYOFF SPOT

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Buddy Temple (Jr./Webster, NY; Webster Senior) scored four goals and assisted on another as the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team defeated FDU-Madison, 15-6, in Middle Atlantic Conference action. The Warriors led throughout but exploded for nine goals in the final quarter to secure the win. Lycoming improves to 9-3 overall and 5-1 within the MAC. The Devils fall to 8-2 and 3-2.

Scoring was slow early in the game with both teams alternating a pair of goals during the first quarter. The Warriors created a bit of a cushion in the second quarter, posting three unanswered goals to open the period. FDU, however, scored late in the quarter to pull within two at the half.

After each team tallied just one goal in the third quarter, Lycoming found their stride and exploded for nine goals in the fourth quarter. Five different Warriors found the back of the net during the offensive outburst. The Devils could not keep pace with Lycoming, managing just two goals over the final 15 minutes.

Temple’s four goals led the Warriors’ scorers. Freshman Dave Dormond (Bryn Mawr; Haverford Township) added three goals, and Todd Brysiak (Sr./Aston; Ridley Senior), Mark Barnes (Sr./Elmira, NY; Corning-Painted Post East) and Mike Bonnes (Sr./Ridley Park; Ridley Senior) each scored two. Dustin Sheriff led FDU-Madison with three goals and an assist.

Jared Jankowski (Sr./Boonton, NJ; Boonton) played a strong game in goal for the Warriors, making 19 saves. Justin Fawley made 20 saves in net for the Devils.

“This was an emotional game for us, since FDU knocked us off last season. It took a half for us to settle down and get into our system,” said Lycoming head coach Gene Peluso. “Once we calmed down, we were able to play our game and good things happened.

“Individually, Mark Barnes played a great game on both ends of the field and continues to perform like an All-American. Jared Jankowski also played a superior game in goal behind one of our best defensive efforts of the season.”

The Warriors play again next Wednesday, when they travel to Susquehanna University.
