Men's Lacrosse

WARRIORS COME UP JUST SHORT VERSUS ONEONTA

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team hosted SUNY-Oneonta College at the University of Scranton in a neutral-site game between two nationally ranked opponents. The Warriors entered the matched ranked 22nd in the country, while the Red Dragons came in at 20th. The game was predictably close with Oneonta pulling out a one-goal victory by scoring a pair of goals in the final three minutes to win 11-10.

Lycoming led for over 55 minutes of the game, jumping out to a lead by outscoring the Red Dragons 3-2 in each of the first two quarters. Oneonta tied the game for the first time with 2:25 to play in the fourth quarter. They then scored the game-winning goal less than a minute later with 1:30 showing on the clock.

“It was a hard fought game from start to finish. We had plenty of opportunities to put the game away, but we didn’t shoot very well today and their goalie played extremely well,” said head coach Gene Peluso. “This was a game between number 20 and 22; it could have gone either way. Unfortunately, we came up a bit short today.”

Chris Rausch (Sr./Wilmington, DE; Salesianium) led the Warriors’ offense with three goals on the afternoon. Freshman Sang Duong (Havertown; Haverford Township) added a pair of goals. Seniors Mark Barnes (Elmira, NY; Corning-Painted Post East) and Mike Bonnes (Ridley Park; Ridley Senior) scored one goal and tallied two assists each.

Jared Jankowski (Sr./Boonton, NJ; Boonton) made 12 saves in goal for Lycoming.

“Now we get geared up for Elmira,” said Peluso. “It will be another non-conference game and a good opportunity for us to go out, compete hard and get better before the conference schedule.”

The Warriors, now 1-1 on the season, will travel to Elmira on Saturday, March 17.
