LYCOMING PICKS
ROSA TO HEAD MEN’S LACROSSE PROGRAM
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– Lycoming College announces the hiring of Shawn Rosa as
the head coach of the men’s lacrosse team. Rosa becomes just the
second coach in the program’s five-year history.
“We’re
extremely happy to have Shawn as the next head coach of our
men’s lacrosse program,” said Athletics Director Frank Girardi.
“Having been involved as a player and a coach since the
program’s inception, we’re confident that Shawn will continue
to produce competitive teams and continue to build the program to
a level of national prominence.”
Rosa graduated
from Lycoming in 2000 and was a member of the College’s
inaugural lacrosse team. He was the Warriors’ offensive MVP each
of his four seasons, acting as the on-field offensive coordinator.
Rosa was a three-time conference all-star and was the program’s
first All-American when he was named to the first-team in 1998. He
completed his playing career as Lycoming’s all-time leader in
career goals with 135, career assists with 139 and career points
with 274. He still holds the marks for career assists and points
in addition to four other all-time records.
Last season, Rosa
remained with the team as an assistant coach under Gene Peluso. He
coordinated the Warriors’ offensive attack that ranked seventh
in the nation averaging 15.25 goals-per-game, and outscored
opponents by an average of 5.44 goals-per-game.
“I think
Lycoming College and Lycoming lacrosse will benefit by having
Shawn Rosa as the next head coach,” said Peluso. “He was our
offensive MVP for four years and was our first All-American and he
has always had a sincere passion for the growth of the program. As
a player and a coach, Shawn helped me with recruiting, helped me
with game management and was always focused on the success of
Warrior lacrosse.”
Rosa will
inherit a team that went 12-4 and won their first regular season
championship in 2001. The squad lost eight players to graduation,
including three MAC all-stars, but will enter 2002 with 20-plus
returnees, including three conference all-stars and the MAC Rookie
of the Year.
“I’m very
excited to take over a program that I have been a part of from the
beginning,” said Rosa. “I look forward to bringing home an MAC
championship to a team and institution that have worked hard to
achieve success. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to
continue my involvement with Lycoming lacrosse and I look forward
to my future leading the Warriors.”
