Score
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. --- Lycoming men’s lacrosse was in control through one half of
play and seemed on a path to the Middle Atlantic Conference
playoffs, but FDU-Florham cast a
five-goal second stanza run to come back and defeat the Warriors
6-4 on Saturday afternoon. The
loss combined with other action in the MAC eliminated the Warriors
from playoff contention. The
Warriors finish with a 5-8 overall mark, 5-5 in conference play.
The
blue and gold were firing on all cylinders in the first 30 minutes
of action, rolling out to a 4-1 lead by the intermission.
Sophomore Daniel Cannon (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada)
got things rolling with the first of his two goals on an
unassisted effort with 7:32 showing on the clock in the first
quarter. He made it
2-0 Lycoming off a feed from sophomore Matt Lando (Corning,
N.Y./Corning Painted Post) with 10:51 to go in the second
period.
After the Devils cut the lead in half, Lycoming closed the
first half with two more scores.
Junior Tom Nairn (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) picked up
his 24th goal of the season off an assist from
sophomore Jim Cusick (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley).
Cusick chipped in the second goal with the help of Lando
with only 28 seconds to play before halftime to secure the
Warriors’ 4-1 advantage.
FDU turned the tide in the third quarter, busting loose of
the Warriors’ grasp with five unanswered tallies in the third
quarter. Lycoming
tried in earnest to regain the momentum by firing 13 shots at the
Devils’ net in the fourth quarter, but none could get past the
FDU keeper.
Combined with Elizabethtown College’s victory over Moravian
College, the Warriors were eliminated from the MAC playoff
scenario on a head-to-head tie-breaker with Susquehanna
University.
