Warriors'
Offense Explodes on Moravian
Nairn, Dixon, Lando Lead Charge
Box Score
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. --- Lycoming men’s lacrosse made up for its shortcomings at Dickinson
College with an explosive effort against Moravian College, hammering the
Greyhounds 16-7 on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors improve to 2-3 overall, 2-0 in the MAC while
Moravian falls to 1-5, 0-2.
Lycoming
busted the game wide open with six unanswered goals in the second
quarter. After
Moravian scored early in the frame to cut Lycoming’s lead to one
at 3-2, junior attacker Tom Nairn (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport)
notched his third and fourth goals of the half to begin the
Warriors run through the middle of the quarter.
The sophomore quartet of Dan Cannon (Orangeville,
Ontario, Canada), Matt Lando (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted
Post), Jim Cusick (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and Justin
Dixon (Baltimore, Md./North County) followed in order to push
the Warriors out to an 8-2 advantage.
Nairn
and Dixon were electric throughout the contest, trading four goal
halves amongst each other. Nairn
notched four of his five tallies in the first 30 minutes, also
notching an assist to give him team-bests of 10 goals and 32
points on the season. Dixon
only scored one in the first half, but caught fire with four
scores in the second half-hour of play.
Lando presence proved charitable, dishing out five assists
while scoring once.
Cannon dropped in a pair of goals in the first half, his
first two of the season. Cusick,
the reigning MAC Player of the Week, added a trio of assists to
his second quarter goal. Freshman
Shea Conway (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) and sophomore David
Labagh (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) joined the party
with a goal apiece marking both players’ first tallies of the
season.
Sophomore
goalkeeper Matt Lyons (Radnor, Pa./Conestoga), the current
MAC Goalkeeper of the Week, lived up his billing with eight saves
before exiting 1:18 into the fourth quarter.
Freshman Kyle Gilfoy (Media, Pa./Penncrest) finished
the contest between the pipes, making four saves.
The Warriors’ 8-3 halftime was more than enough for
Moravian to handle. Lycoming
made it even tougher with three straight goals out of the
intermission, but the Greyhounds continued to battle, finishing
the third quarter with two scores of their own.
Dixon reaffirmed the Warriors’ lead just 10 seconds into
the fourth quarter, streaking from midfield following the face-off
and beating the Greyhound keeper to the near-side.
Moravian answered with goals including a man-up effort from
Ken Blom, but the Warriors ended the contest with a
three-goal spurt.
Lycoming is next in action on Wednesday, March 29, as the
Warriors travel to Susquehanna University.
Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
