Men's Lacrosse

Warriors Fire on All Cylinders, Pound Royals
Offense Explodes, Defense Clamps on Scranton
Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT , Pa. --- Lycoming men’s lacrosse rebounded emphatically from last week’s loss to Susquehanna University by completely dominating the University of Sophomore Justin Dixon shields the ball from a defender.Scranton 17-2 on Tuesday afternoon.  The Warriors improved to 3-4 overall, 3-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference play.  Scranton falls to 1-8, 1-4.

The opening whistled triggered the Warriors’ attack, opening the floodgates for seven unanswered goals through the midway point of the second quarter.  Up 8-2 at the half, Lycoming poured nine more on the boards while holding the Royals to only four shots.  Overall, the Warriors threaten Scranton ’s net 37 times compared to only 16 shots from their purple and gray clad opponents.

Sophomores Matt Lando ( Corning , N.Y./Corning Painted Post) and Jim Cusick ( Aston , Pa. / Sun Valley ) each put together eight point days.  Lando tallied five goals, including an impressive behind the back shot with 0:04 left in the first half, to go along with three assists.  Cusick reversed the sequence, notching a trio of goals to go with five helpers.  Both players are tied for the team lead with 29 total points.

Junior Tom Nairn (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore Dan Cannon (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada) each registered two scores while sophomore Justin Dixon (Baltimore, Md./North County) and freshmen Shea Conway (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg), Ryan Godec (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), and Robbie Thompson (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) tallied once apiece.  The most celebrated goal of the afternoon came on freshman Oscar Wheeler’s ( Corning , N.Y./Corning Painted Post) first score of the season.  Wheeler, one of the Warriors long-pole defensemen, took control of the ball and sprinted the majority of the field before wrong-footing the Scranton keeper and sending it into the back of the net.

White and blue jerseys seemed to fly throughout the pitch all afternoon resulting in 53 groundballs and 16 won face-offs to only 29 and seven for the Royals.  Four of Lycoming’s tallies surrounded man-up opportunities.  On two occasions, the Warriors scored with the yellow flag on the ground and took advantage of the ensuing man-up chance to score again.

Lycoming looks to keep up its solid play on Saturday, April 8, as the Warriors welcome Widener University to the Shangraw Athletic Complex for a heated MAC battle.  Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
