Men’s
Lacrosse Falls to Drew
Loss Ends Warriors
Bid for Playoffs
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s lacrosse team (4-10, 4-6)
dropped its late-season bid for the MAC playoffs with a 14-11
loss to conference foe Drew (8-6, 7-3) on Saturday. The Warriors
started the year slowly, but rallied in recent weeks and
maintained a competitive fire despite adversity.
Head coach
Brian Anken’s troops came out with trademark intensity.
Junior Justin Dixon (Baltimore, MD) started the scoring
with an unassisted goal. Drew answered, but freshman Ed
Williams (Florham Park, NJ) and junior Jim Cusick (Aston,
PA) put Lycoming up 3-1 at 8:39 in the first quarter.
Drew
scored again before the Warriors reeled off five straight goals
into the second period. Senior Tom Nairn (Fairport, NY)
notched two of the scores. Nate Walter (Harrisburg, PA),
Brad Schaeffer (Smithsburg, MD) and Williams also found
the net.
Warrior
goalie Alex Tankeloff (Malvern, PA) recorded 11 saves in
the first half, holding Drew to just four goals. Lycoming’s
Dan Cannon (Orangeville, ONT) scored with 0:30 left in the
second period to put the blue and gold up 9-4 at the break.
However,
Tankeloff gave up four goals in the first six minutes of the
third quarter and was replaced by Kyle Gilfoy (Media, PA),
who had nine saves for the rest of the game. During Drew's run,
Dixon scored again for the Warriors to make the score 10-8. But
Drew slipped another goal in the cage just before the period
ended and Lycoming went into the final quarter with just a one
point lead.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, Drew owned the last period,
netting three goals before Cannon scored with 5:56 left. The
Rangers added two more scores before the final horn to seal the
victory.
