Fall to First-Place Messiah
Cusick Scores Five
Goals for Lycoming
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s lacrosse team (4-9, 4-5) fell to MAC
opponent Messiah on Wednesday night by a score of 19-12. Messiah
is undefeated and ranked first in the conference. The Warriors
still have a chance to make the playoffs with a win in their
final game and an FDU-Florham loss on Saturday.
Lycoming’s
Jim Cusick (Aston, PA) scored five goals and added an
assist against the Falcons. Two of his scores came in the fourth
quarter when the Warriors outscored Messiah 4-1. Sophomore
Shea Conway (Glenwood, MD) also scored two times in the
fourth.
To
begin the game, Messiah sprinted to a 5-0 lead before Justin
Dixon (Baltimore, MD) and Dan Cannon (Orangeville, ONT)
scored for Lycoming. Messiah added two more goals to close
the first period.
Cannon, who
had three goals and two assists on the day, opened the second
quarter with a score, but the Falcons again reeled off five
straight scores in the period’s first six minutes. Warrior
co-captain Tom Nairn (Fairport, NY) found the net and
Cusick scored twice on assists from Cannon and Nairn, but
Messiah led 14-6 at the half.
Messiah
scored three goals to open the third quarter and one to end it.
In between, Cusick and Cannon scored back-to-back goals in the period’s
final 90 seconds.
Sophomore
Kyle Gilfoy (Media, PA) and senior Alex Tankeloff
(Malvern, PA) each played a half in goal. Both had five
saves apiece.
The Warriors
take on Drew University on Saturday, April 28 at 1:00 p.m. FDU-Florham
faces Susquehanna at 4:00 p.m. |
