Warriors Help Expand Lacrosse
Help local team develop skills
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. --- Several members of the Lycoming College Warriors
Lacrosse Team recently helped out at a weekly middle school and
high school practice, sponsored by the Central Susquehanna
Lacrosse Club. During the clinic, the Warriors demonstrated the
basics, and then progressed to more advanced lacrosse play such
as 2v2 and 3v3 as well as working in transition and how to stop
breaks.
The large group
was brought together to learn as the Lycoming team presented the
sets and then broke out into two smaller groups. Assistant Coach
Mike Corteau helped out the middle school aged kids with the
help of freshmen Mike Johnson (Cranberry Twp., Pa.),
Mike Doherty (Berlin, Md.), Shawn Lowman (Millersville, Md.) Ed
Williams (Florham Park, N.J.), and juniors Tony Mackin
(Springfield, Va.), John Stark (Lewisburg, Pa.) and "The
kids really enjoyed us coming down and helping them to improve
their game. The really gained a lot of good lacrosse knowledge
today" says Tony Mackin, who plays defense for the Warriors.
At the other end
of the indoor sports complex, Coach Anken worked hands on with
the high school with the aid of Assistant Coach Greg Stocks,
freshmen Nate Walters (Harrisburg, Pa.), Brad Schaeffer
(Smithsburg, Md.), and sophomore Chris Nagle (West
Simsbury, CT). "We had a great time coming down here to help
improve the sport in the area. It's great to see lacrosse on the
rise" noted Walters, after the clinic was over.
This is the
second time that the Warriors have helped to put on a clinic in
the area, after helping out at the
Curtain Middle School in Williamsport, just north of the
Lycoming Campus.
The Warriors
open their season at home on February 24, 2007 against #12
ranked Ithaca College at 1:00 PM on the Turf Field at the
Shangraw Athletic Complex. |
