Men's Lacrosse

Lycoming Defeats DeSales in Snow
Cusick Scores Four Goals, Three Score Three

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa—In a driving, wet snowstorm, Lycoming’s men’s lacrosse team (1-4) grabbed its first victory on Monday. The Warriors defeated conference foe DeSales (3-2)19-5 in a game that had been rescheduled from Saturday because of bad weather.

Junior midfielder Jim Cusick (Aston, PA) led Lycoming’s charge with four goals, while three other Warriors pulled a hat trick. Lyco’s starting front line of junior Dan Cannon (Orangeville, ONT) and freshmen Nate Walter (Harrisburg, PA) and Brad Schaeffer (Snithsburg, MD) combined for nine goals and six assists. Walter and senior Matt Lando (Corning, NY) shared the team lead with three assists apiece.

At halftime, the Warriors were up 9-2 and the green field was hardly visible beneath soggy snow. Lycoming’s building and grounds department did an excellent job keeping the crease and sidelines clear as snow continued to fall.

DeSales scored two goals in the third quarter, but the Warriors netted five and the game was all but over. Sophomore goalie Kyle Gilfoy (Media, PA) gave way to Alex Tankeloff (Malvern, PA) for most of the final frame. Gilfoy compiled seven saves on the day, while the Tank stopped three shots. Freshman Mike Doherty (Berlin, MD) and junior John Stark (Lewisburg, PA) won 9 of 14 face-offs in the second half to keep the Warriors on the offensive even as the game waned.

Lycoming must now wait more than a week before it takes on Susquehanna on Tuesday, March 27. The game will be played at Shangraw Athletic Complex at 3:30 p.m.
