Warriors Fall to Elmira
Cusick Scores Thrice, Lando Dishes Three Assists

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s lacrosse team (0-4) lost a heartbreaker on Thursday 10-8 to Elmira (3-1). The Soaring Eagles scored four fourth quarter goals to steal victory at Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Lycoming started strong, inspired to claim its first win of the season. The Warriors scored four goals in the first quarter, while sophomore goalie Kyle Gilfoy (Media, PA) held Elmira scoreless with six of his 13 overall saves.

Freshman midfielder Ed Williams (Florham Park, NJ) assisted junior Dan Cannon (Orangeville, ONT) for Lycoming’s first point, then scored on his own as time ran out in the first period. Senior captain Tom Nairn (Fairport, NY) and junior Jim Cusick (Aston, PA) also notched goals in the opening frame.

Elmira’s Brad Levick opened the second period with the first of his game-high five goals to help cut Lycoming’s lead to 4-3 at halftime. However, in the third, Warrior senior Matt Lando (Corning, NY) assisted Cannon and Cusick, while Dan Conkright (Spring City, PA) scored unassisted to keep Lycoming up, 7-6, going into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Elmira’s intensity peaked and the Soaring Eagles stole victory despite a third goal by Cusick. Cusick led Lycoming with a hat trick, while Lando delivered a team-high three assists.

The Warriors play again on Saturday, March 17 in their first conference match-up. Lycoming will host DeSales at 1:00 p.m.
