Fall to Elmira
Cusick Scores
Thrice, Lando Dishes Three Assists
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s lacrosse team (0-4) lost a heartbreaker on
Thursday 10-8 to Elmira (3-1). The Soaring Eagles scored four
fourth quarter goals to steal victory at Shangraw Athletic
Complex.
Lycoming
started strong, inspired to claim its first win of the season.
The Warriors scored four goals in the first quarter,
while sophomore goalie Kyle Gilfoy (Media, PA) held
Elmira scoreless with six of his 13 overall saves.
Freshman
midfielder Ed Williams (Florham Park, NJ) assisted junior
Dan Cannon (Orangeville, ONT) for Lycoming’s first point,
then scored on his own as time ran out in the first
period. Senior captain Tom Nairn (Fairport, NY) and
junior Jim Cusick (Aston, PA) also notched goals in the
opening frame.
Elmira’s
Brad Levick opened the second period with the first of his
game-high five goals to help cut Lycoming’s lead to 4-3 at
halftime. However, in the third, Warrior senior Matt Lando
(Corning, NY) assisted Cannon and Cusick, while Dan
Conkright (Spring City, PA) scored unassisted to keep
Lycoming up, 7-6, going into the final period.
In the
fourth quarter, Elmira’s intensity peaked and the Soaring Eagles
stole victory despite a third goal by Cusick. Cusick led
Lycoming with a hat trick, while Lando delivered a
team-high three assists.
The Warriors
play again on Saturday, March 17 in their first conference
match-up. Lycoming will host DeSales at 1:00 p.m. |
