Lycoming Falls at Widener
Three Warriors Score Twice

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s lacrosse team (2-8, 2-4) fell to last year’s MAC champion Widener (6-4, 4-2) on Saturday by a score of 14-7. The margin might have been larger if not for the impressive play of Lycoming goalkeeper Kyle Gilfoy (Media, PA), who made 19 saves, including eight in the first quarter.

Warriors Jim Cusick (Aston, PA), Brad Schaeffer (Smithburg, PA) and Dan Cannon (Orangeville, ONT) each scored twice for the blue and gold. Cannon notched both of his goals in the opening half, while Cusick and freshman Mike Doherty (Berlin, MD) each scored in the final minute of the second quarter to cut Widener’s lead to 6-5 at halftime.

However, Widener came out strong in the second half, scoring six straight goals, including the game winner by Chris Matthews. It was the second of Matthews’ game-high five goals.

Schaeffer and Cusick landed fourth quarter goals, but the damage was done.

The Warriors return home to face Elizabethtown on Tuesday, April 17 at Shangraw Athletic Complex. The game starts at 4:00 p.m.
