WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team hosted Susquehanna University, Wednesday afternoon, for a Middle Atlantic Conference contest. The Warriors scored the first four goals and the last four goals en route to a 10-4 victory over the Crusaders. Lycoming improves to 5-2 overall and 4-0 within the MAC. Susquehanna moves to 3-5 and 2-3.

Freshman Jim Cusick (Aston, Pa.; Sun Valley) opened the scoring for the Warriors with an unassisted goal 2:28 into the game. Dave Kirschner (Sr./Newton Square, Pa.; Marple Newton) extended Lycoming’s lead to 3-0 with a pair of first quarter goals, the second coming with just 20 seconds on the clock. Cusick assisted on both scores.

Thomas Nairn (So./Fairport, N.Y.; Fairport) made it 4-0 with a goal off an assist from Kirschner midway through the second period. The Crusaders got on the board two minutes later, with Matt Dimler scoring off an assist by Dan St. Ours. The score remained 4-1 in favor of the home team at halftime.

Susquehanna showed signs of a comeback early in the second half as Dimler recorded his second score just 46 seconds into the third quarter. Justin Mason assisted on the goal. The two squads traded goals throughout the rest of the period with Kirschner sandwiching a pair of scores around a goal by the Crusaders’ Taylor Hogarth. Chris McQuade (Sr./Lower Gwynedd, Pa.; Wissahickon) and Nairn assisted on Kirschner’s goals. Ryan Walters claimed an assist on Hogarth’s score.

The Warriors entered the final period holding a 6-3 advantage, but Susquehanna again scored  in the first minute to cut their deficit to two. Mike Tozzi recorded the goal, while Mason tallied his second assist. Lycoming, however, would let the Crusaders get no closer, scoring the final four goals of the game. Cusick accounted for two of the scores, both assisted by Kirschner. Kirschner also assisted on a score by Nairn, and Cusick assisted on a goal by McQuade.

Kirschner led Lycoming with four goals and four assists. Cusick added three goals and three assists. Nairn totaled two goals and one assist, while McQuade recorded one goal and one assist. Matt Lyons (So./Radnor, Pa.; Conestoga) went the distance in goal for the Warriors, making seven saves and allowing a season-low four goals.

Dimler accounted for two of Susquehanna’s goals, Tozzi and Hogarth picked up the other two. Mason recorded two assists, and St. Ours and Walters each tallied one. Dan Kotch was in goal for the Crusaders. He made 10 saves and allowed 10 goals.

Lycoming will face Moravian College on Saturday, April 9, for another conference match-up. The game will be played at Lehigh University at 4 p.m.
