WARRIOR MEN’S
LACROSSE TOPS SCRANTON
SCRANTON,
Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team traveled to the
University of Scranton, Wednesday afternoon, for a Middle
Atlantic Conference contest. The Warriors opened up a six-goal
lead early in the contest and held off each Royal rally to post
a 13-8 victory. Lycoming improves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 within
the conference with the win. Scranton falls to 0-6 and 0-2.
Freshman
attacker James Cusick (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) scored the
game's first three goals and finished with four goals and an
assist for the Warriors, as did sophomore attacker Thomas
Nairn (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport). Dave Kirschner (Newton
Square, Pa./Marple Newton) added two goals and four assists
and Justin Dixon (Baltimore, Md./North County) chipped in
two goals.
The Royals
were led by sophomore midfielder Dan Stallone (S. Plainfield,
N.J./St. Joseph Metuchen) with three goals and an assist and
freshman midfielder Matthew Huber (Chester, N.J./West Morris
Mendham) had two goals.
After Cusick
and Nairn combined for six goals to spark the Warriors to a 7-1
lead early in the second period, the Royals, behind goals by
Huber, Stallone and sophomore attacker Sean O'Connor (Media,
Pa./Penncrest), cut the lead to 7-4 by intermission.
The Warriors
extended their lead to 10-4 by the end of the third period on
goals by Nairn, Dixon and Cusick before Scranton cut the margin
to 11-8 on two goals by Stallone and another by senior
midfielder Jonathan Sutter (Media, Pa./Penncrest) with 3:24
left. Dixon and Dan Conkwright (Fr./Spring City, Pa.; Owen
J. Roberts) added unassisted goals at the 2:55 and 1:39
marks, respectively, to set the final score.
Sophomore
goalie Matt Lyons (Randnor, Pa./Conestoga) made a
game-high 15 saves for the Warriors, while Scranton's Thomas
Kenyon (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) had 12 saves and seven
ground balls.
Lycoming
will return home to host DeSales University, Saturday, April 2,
beginning at 1 p.m. |
