WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming
College men’s lacrosse team hosted DeSales University, Thursday
afternoon, for a Middle Atlantic Conference contest. The
Warriors outscored the Bulldogs 8-1 in the second half to snap a
three-game losing streak with a 15-6 victory. Lycoming is now
8-5 overall and 7-2 in the MAC. DeSales falls to 3-11 and 1-8.
The game was close in the early
going with the Warriors claiming a 3-2 lead after one period and
a 4-2 advantage minutes into the second period. The Bulldogs,
however, ran off three unanswered goals to take their only lead
of the game at 5-4 with seven minutes to play in the half.
Lycoming responded with three goals of their own prior to the
half to reclaim a 7-5 lead. The second half was all Warriors, as
the home team outscored DeSales 3-1 in the third period and 5-0
in the fourth quarter.
Chris McQuade (Sr./Lower Gwynedd,
Pa.; Wissahickon) led
Lycoming’s attack with four goals and three assists in the game.
James Cusick (Fr./Aston, Pa.; Sun Valley) added four
goals and two assists, while Dave Kirschner (Sr./Newtown
Square, Pa.; Marple Newtown) chipped in three goals and
three assists. Thomas Nairn (So./Fairport, N.Y.; Fairport)
contributed two goals and one assist; Tyler Fitzgibbons
(Sr./Doylestown, Pa.; Archbishop Wood) scored one goal and
assisted on another; Mike Reilly (Fr./Aston, Pa.; Sun Valley)
recorded one goal; and Chris Jordan (Sr./Doylestown, Pa.;
Germantown Academy) tallied one assist.
Matt Lyons (So./Radnor, Pa.;
Conestoga) started in
net for the Warriors and made eight saves versus six
goals-allowed in 45 minutes. Erik Shepski (Sr./West Chester,
Pa.; Unionville) played in goal for the final 15 minutes,
making three saves without allowing a goal.
The Bulldogs were led by Andrew
Stamatelos with two goals and Brian Kuttler with one goal and a
pair of assists. Ben Conroy went the distance between the pipes,
making 12 saves.
Lycoming will play their final regular season
game on Saturday, April 30, when they host Drew University at 3
p.m. |
