MEN’S LACROSSE FALLS IN SEASON OPENER
ST.
MARY’S CITY, Md. – The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team
opened the 2005 season, Tuesday afternoon, at St. Mary’s College
of Maryland. The Warriors struggled to find their offense early
in the contest, ultimately falling to the Seahawks, 9-3. St.
Mary’s is now 1-2 overall this season.
All three of
Lycoming’s goals came in the second half from three different
players. Chris Jordan (Sr./Doylestown, Pa.; Germantown
Academy) got the first goal of the season off an assist from
Dave Kirschner (Sr./Newton Square, Pa.; Marple Newton) in
the third quarter. Chris McQuade (Sr./Lower Gwynedd, Pa.;
Wissahickon) added another goal in the third period, and
Thomas Nairn (So./Fairport, N.Y.; Fairport) contributed a
goal in the fourth quarter.
Matt Lyons
(So./Radnor, Pa.; Conestoga)
went the distance in goal for the Warriors, making 15 saves.
"We dug
ourselves a hole in the first half that we just couldn't recover
from," said Lycoming head coach Mike Talarico. "We played
even with them in the second half, but it wasn't enough to
overcome the slow start."
Lycoming
will play again on Friday evening, when they challenge Virginia
Wesleyan College at 7 p.m.
