MEN’S LACROSSE DOUBLES UP KING’S

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team
hosted King’s College, Tuesday afternoon, for a Middle Atlantic
Conference contest. The Warriors used a solid defensive effort
and a consistent attack to defeat the Monarchs, 10-5. Lycoming
improves to 7-2 overall this season and 6-0 in the MAC with
their sixth consecutive win. King’s falls to 4-6 and 1-5.
The Warriors
took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter off goals by Dave
Kirschner (Sr./Newton Square, Pa.; Marple Newton) and
Tyler Fitzgibbons (Sr./Doylestown, Pa.; Archbishop Wood).
Chris Jordan (Sr./Doylestown, Pa.; Germantown Academy)
assisted on Kirschner’s goal.
In the
second quarter, the Monarchs pulled within one goal on two
occasions, but each time Lycoming answered to maintain their
two-goal cushion at the half. John Matusiewicz scored King’s
first goal off an assist by Gary Morgan. Steve Matusiewicz, the
Monarchs’ goalkeeper, went coast-to-coast for King’s second
goal. For the Warriors, Justin Dixon (Fr./Baltimore, Md.;
North County) scored off an assist from Thomas Nairn
(So./Fairport, N.Y.; Fairport); and James Cusick
(Fr./Aston, Pa.; Sun Valley) scored off an assist from
Kirschner.
Lycoming put
the game away in the third quarter, outscoring the Monarchs 4-1.
Kirschner scored twice in the period, while Nairn and
Fitzgibbons each added a goal.
Kirschner
finished the game with four goals and one assist. Fitzgibbons
added three goals, and Cusick, Nairn, and Dixon each tallied one
score. Cusick also recorded three assists. Jordan and Nairn each
assisted on two goals.
King’s was
led by John Matusiewicz with two goals. Gary Morgan, Chris
Landry, and Steve Matusiewicz accounted for the other Monarch
goals. Morgan and Ryan Thomas each recorded an assist.
Matt Lyons
(So./Radnor, Pa.; Conestoga)
made five saves in goal for the Warriors. Steve Matusiewicz made
20 saves in net for King’s
Lycoming
will travel to Widener University for their next contest on
Saturday, April 16. Face-off is at 1 p.m. |
