WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College athletics department is
pleased to announce the hiring of Michael Talarico as
head coach of the men’s lacrosse program. Talarico becomes the
third coach in the program’s eight-year history, replacing Shawn
Rosa who resigned in June to pursue other opportunities.
“We’re
extremely happy to welcome Michael to Lycoming as the next head
coach of the men’s lacrosse program,” said Director of Athletics
Frank Girardi . “Michael is very familiar with the Middle
Atlantic Conference both as a player and as a coach. We believe
he possesses the skills to build upon the success our men’s
lacrosse program has achieved and the enthusiasm to enhance our
student-athletes’ college experiences.”
Talarico is
a 2001 graduate of Drew University, where he was a member of the
Ranger lacrosse team. He went on to earn a master’s degree from
Widener University in 2003 while serving as an assistant coach
for the Pioneers.
While at
Widener, Talarico was the team’s offensive coordinator and was
also responsible for coordinating recruiting efforts; developing
strength, conditioning, and agility programs; assisting the head
coach in game and practice planning, scouting, fund raising,
administrative duties, and travel arrangements; and serving as
the box coach on game days – executing substitutions during the
game. In his three seasons with the Pioneers, Talarico helped
guide the team to a pair of MAC Championships and two
appearances in the NCAA tournament. Widener finished the 2003
season ranked 23rd in the nation in the coaches’
poll.
As a player
at Drew, Talarico was a four-time All-Middle Atlantic Conference
selection and was the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Most Valuable Player in 1999. He was also dubbed the Rangers’
athlete of the year in 2001.
Talarico
inherits a team that returns 14 letterwinners and five starters
from last season’s 7-6 squad. The Warriors are three years
removed from back-to-back appearances in the MAC Championship
game. |
