LEXINGTON, Va. – The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team opened up the 2004 season by traveling to Washington & Lee University, Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors nearly upset the Generals, ranked 12th in the nation, leading at halftime before falling in triple overtime, 8-7. Lycoming drops to 0-1, while Washington & Lee improves to 2-1.

With just three days of outdoor practice under their belts, the Warriors opened their season with an impressive performance against one of the top teams in the nation. Lycoming posted three goals in the first 15 minutes to hold a 3-2 lead after one period. The Warriors extended their advantage to 5-3 by halftime.

In the third period, the Generals outscored Lycoming 3-1 to knot the game at 6-6 heading into the final 15 minutes. The Warriors again moved ahead scoring a goal with 12:56 to play, only to have Washington & Lee answer with a goal of their own four minutes later.

Neither team would score again until the Generals’ Dustin Martin found the net with 2:36 remaining in the third overtime.

Dan Wilcox (Sr./Corning, N.Y.; Corning East) led Lycoming with three goals and an assist. Sang Duong (Jr./Havertown, Pa.; Haverford) added a goal and two assists, while Chris McQuade (Jr./Lower Gwynedd, Pa.; Wissahickon) scored two goals and Sean Malone (Sr./Calgary, Alberta; Sir Winston Churchill) tallied one.
