WARRIOR MEN’S
LACROSSE EXTENDS WINNING STREAK TO SIX
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team
hosted FDU-Florham, Saturday afternoon, for an important Freedom
Conference contest. The Warriors overcame a three-goal,
third-quarter deficit to defeat the Devils 12-11, scoring the
game-winning goal with less than 30 seconds to play. The victory
is Lycoming’s sixth consecutive and improves their overall
record to 6-2 and their conference record to 5-0. FDU drops to
3-5 and 1-2.
The Warriors
looked strong early, posting five unanswered goals after falling
behind 2-0 to take a 5-2 lead early in the second quarter. The
Devils, however, battled back to knot the game at 7-7 heading
into halftime.
FDU
continued to control the action in the third period, scoring the
first three goals to take a 10-7 lead. Lycoming got one back
late in the period to pull within 10-8 heading into the final
quarter. The Warriors added two more goals to tie the score at
10-10 with seven minutes to play.
The Devils
regained the lead when John Damiani scored an unassisted goal
with 5:07 showing on the clock. Lycoming, however, would have
the final say. After killing a one-minute penalty, the Warriors
got back to even when Dave Dormond (Sr./Bryn Mawr, Pa.;
Haverford) scored off an assist from Sang Duong
(Jr./Havertown, Pa.; Haverford).
Lycoming
lost the ensuing face-off, but their defense held giving their
attack another opportunity with 90 seconds to play. Dan
Wilcox (Sr./Corning, N.Y.; Corning East) then tallied the
game-winning goal with 27 seconds to play, taking a pass from
Chris Jordan (So./Doylestown, Pa.; Germantown Acad.).
Wilcox led
the Warriors with five goals in the contest. Duong added three
goals, including the 100th of his career, and five
assists. Dormond scored two goals, while Dave Kirschner
(Jr./Newtown Square, Pa.; Marple Newtown) and Sean Malone
(Sr./Calgary, Alberta; Sir Winston Churchill) each added one
score. Sean Powers (Sr./Drexel Hill, Pa.; Monsignor Bonner)
went the distance in goal for Lycoming, making 10 saves.
FDU was led
by Damiani with four goals. Derek Havran and Scott Shadiack each
added two goals. Havran also tallied three assists. John Apples
