WARRIOR MEN’S LACROSSE FALLS AT SCRANTON

SCRANTON, PA – The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team traveled to the University of Scranton, Wednesday afternoon, for a Middle Atlantic Conference contest. The Warriors gave up six fourth-quarter goals and dropped their second conference game of the season, falling to the Royals 14-7. Lycoming falls to 5-4 overall and 4-2 within the MAC. Scranton improves to 5-6 and 4-2.

The Warriors scored the game’s first goal just 13 seconds into the contest. Ryan Bergstrom (Sr./Hagerstown, MD; Smithsburg) found the back of the net off an assist by Rob VanderWiele (Jr./Hardwick, NJ; Blair Academy). The Royals, however, built a 5-3 lead by halftime.

Lycoming played even with Scranton through the third period, but the Royals attack exploded for six goals in the fourth quarter to run away with the seven-goal victory.

Bergstrom, Chris McQuade (So./Lower Gwynedd, PA; Wissahickon), and Dave Kirschner (So./Newtown Square, PA; Marple Newtown) led the Warriors with two goals each. Kirschner also added an assist. Dan Wilcox (Jr./Corning, NY; Corning East) chipped in one goal and one assist.

Christian Willaum (Jr./New Milford, CT; New Milford) made 14 saves in goal for Lycoming.

The Warriors will look to rebound on Saturday, when they travel to Widener University. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
