WARRIOR
MENS LACROSSE OVERCOMES FOUR GOAL DEFICIT TO DEFEAT SUSQUEHANNA
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA The Lycoming
College mens lacrosse team hosted Susquehanna University,
Wednesday afternoon, for a Middle Atlantic Conference contest. The
Warriors trailed for more than 50 minutes of the game, but
outscored the Crusaders 6-2 in the final period to steal the
victory. Lycoming improves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 within the
conference. Susquehanna drops to 2-3 and 0-2.
The
Crusaders controlled the action early, scoring the first two goals
of the game. The Warriors fought back to tie the score at 2-2
early in the second period, but Susquehanna responded with four
unanswered goals to open up their largest lead of the game. Each
team added a goal just before halftime to make the score 7-3 at
the break.
Lycoming
seemed to grab the momentum coming out of the locker room, scoring
a pair of goals less than three minutes into the third period.
Susquehanna, however, responded every time the Warriors threatened
to take the lead. Three goals by the Crusaders after Lycoming tied
the game gave the visitors an 11-8 lead with 13:52 to play. But
the Warriors had one final offensive surge remaining and outscored
Susquehanna 6-1 over the final 13 minutes.
Dan
Wilcox (Jr./Corning, NY; Corning East)
and Chris McQuade (So./Lower Gwynedd, PA; Wissahickon) each
scored four goals to lead Lycoming. Dave Kirschner (So./Newtown
Square, PA; Marple Newtown) added three goals, and Dave
Dormond (Jr./Bryn Mawr, PA; Haverford) chipped in a goal and
two assists. Rob VanderWiele (Jr./Hardwick, NJ; Blair Academy)
also recorded two assists.
The
Crusaders were led by Justin Mason (So./Wilmington, DE; Tatnall)
with five goals and an assist. Dan St. Ours (So./Saco, ME;
Thornton Academy) added four goals and two assists. Andy
Nadler (Sr./Westport, CT; Staples) recorded three assists.
Christian
Willaum (Jr./New Milford, CT; New Milford)
went the distance in goal for the Warriors, making 12 saves. Todd
Marquess (Jr./Philadelphia, PA; Penn Charter) made nine saves
in net for Susquehanna.
Lycoming
plays again on Friday, March 28, when they travel to Elmira
College. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
