WARRIOR MEN’S LACROSSE POUNDS DREW

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team hosted Drew University, Saturday afternoon, for a Middle Atlantic Conference contest. The Warriors, looking for their first victory of the season, jumped on the Rangers early and never let up, winning 19-12. Lycoming improves to 1-2 overall and 1-1 within the conference. Drew falls to 1-4 and 1-1.

The Warriors needed just seven seconds to score the game’s first goal as Rob VanderWiele (Jr./Hardwick, NJ; Blair Academy) won the opening face-off and fed Ryan Bergstrom (Sr./Hagerstown, PA; Smithsburg) for the tally.

The Rangers answered with a goal of their own four minutes later, but Lycoming then scored six unanswered goals to open up a 7-1 lead. The Warriors kept the offensive pressure on through the second period to extend their advantage to 12-3 at halftime.

Drew attempted to climb back in the game during the third quarter, outscoring Lycoming 5-2 in the period. The Warriors, however, withstood the flurry and sealed the game with a string of four goals in the final period.

Bergstrom led Lycoming with six goals and an assist. Dave Kirschner (So./Newtown Square, PA; Marple Newtown) set a school record with nine assists in the contest, while also scoring a pair of goals. Dan Wilcox (Jr./Corning, NY; Corning East) tallied four goals and Sean Malone (Jr./Calgary, Alberta; Sir Winston Churchill) chipped in two. Five other Warriors scored one goal each. Christian Willaum (Jr./New Milford, CT; New Milford) made 18 saves in 58 minutes in goal for Lycoming.

The Rangers were led by Eric Siegel who scored four goals and recorded two assists.

The Warriors are in action again on Monday, March 24, when they host Neumann College at 3:30 p.m.
