MEN COME UP SHORT AGAINST ROYALS
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team hosted the
University of Scranton, Wednesday evening, in the nightcap of a
MAC Freedom Conference doubleheader. The Warriors came back from
an early deficit to lead the game midway through the second half,
but the Royals had the final surge to pull out a 74-69 victory.
Lycoming
trailed most of the first half, heading to the locker room down
40-37. The Warriors, however, quickly erased that deficit in the
second half and took a seven-point lead with just under 12 minutes
to play. From that point, the Royals made their move, going on a
16-1 run over the next four minutes. Lycoming battled back to
within two down the stretch, but Scranton was strong from the
free-throw line to secure the win.
Chris
Napier (Jr./Port Jervis, NY; Minisink Valley)
led the Warriors offensively with 20 points. He was closely
followed by Jason Black (Jr./Duncannon; Susquenita) with 18
markers, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc. David Ganisin
(Sr./Endicott, NY; Endicott Union) led the team in rebounds
with eight, while scoring 13 points. Thomas Wesner
(So/Dillsburg; Northern Senior) added 15 points.
Derek
Elphick was the game’s leading scorer with 28 points. Al
Callejas chipped in 16 for the Royals.
Lycoming
falls to 10-9 overall and 5-5 within the MAC Freedom Conference
with the loss. Scranton improves to 11-8 and 6-4. The Warriors
will travel to Susquehanna University on Saturday for a 3 p.m.
