DEFEAT DESALES; MOVE INTO SECOND PLACE IN CONFERENCE
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team won their
fourth consecutive game Saturday evening by defeating DeSales
University (formerly Allentown), 61-55. The win improves the
Warriors overall record to 9-8 and their Freedom Conference record
to 5-4, good for second place (tied with two or three other
teams).
The
Bulldogs struck first in a game that was back and forth from start
to finish. In the opening five minutes, DeSales pulled out to a
six-point lead. Lycoming, however, erased the deficit took a
six-point lead of their own with seven minutes to play in the
opening half. This time the Bulldogs would make the comeback,
knotting the score at 29 at the half.
The
Warriors opened the second half with an 8-0 run to gain their
largest advantage of the game. DeSales was not done yet, however,
as they fought back to tie the game and take a seven point lead
with just under seven minutes to play in the game. In the end,
Lycoming had the last word outscoring the Bulldogs 8-1 over the
final three minutes to secure the six-point victory.
Chris
Napier (Jr./Port Jervis, NY; Minisink Valley) led all scorers with 27 points, including
four three-pointers. Thomas Wesner (So./Dillsburg; Northern)
led the team in rebounding with 11, while scoring nine points –
all on triples. Junior Jason Black (Duncannon; Susquenita)
added seven points, five assists and three steals.
The
Warriors take a break from conference action on Monday night to
host Elmira College at 7:30 p.m. They then host the University of
Scranton on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. following the women’s
game.
