WARRIORS
DOWN DREW ON BUZZER-BEATER
MADISON, N.J. –
The Lycoming College men’s basketball team picked up a
conference victory at Drew University, Wednesday evening,
defeating the Rangers 71-69. Chris Napier (Jr./Port Jervis, NY;
Minisink Valley) hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the
Warriors the two point win.
Lycoming led by
three points at halftime of a game that was back-and-forth from
start to finish. The Rangers held a three-point advantage with
seconds to play when Jason Black (Jr./Duncannon; Susquenita)
connected on a shot to pull the Warriors within one with 2.3
seconds to play. Drew turned the ball over on the in-bounds pass,
giving Lycoming one last chance. Napier became the hero when he
caught the ball on the in-bounds play, turned and banged home the
game winning shot as time expired.
Brian Lindsay
(Sr./Gettysburg; Gettysburg) led all scorers with 23 points in
the game, including five three-point baskets. Napier added
17 points and six rebounds. Senior David Ganisin (Endicott, NY;
Union Endicott) led Lycoming’s efforts on the glass, pulling
down 12 rebounds. Black
led the team with five assists.
“It was a great
game,” said head coach Terry Conrad. “It was a dogfight from
the beginning, but we hung in there and pulled out the win. A road
win in this conference is very precious, so we’ll take it.”
The
victory improves the Warriors’ record to 6-8 overall and 2-4
within the Freedom Conference. The Rangers fall to 4-9 and 1-5.
Lycoming will remain in conference on Saturday when they host FDU-Madison
at 3 p.m.
