Baylor Honored at Prestigious Event
Philadelphia Catholic League Recognizes Collegiate
Achievements
ROXBOROUGH, Pa. --- Few basketball leagues around the country
demand the prestige as the Philadelphia Catholic League. It
summons a star power of top division talent and
legendary
coaches that would put any basketball guru in a state of awe.
Add one of our own to the ranks of awe-inspiring individuals.
At the 33rd
Annual Philadelphia Catholic League Coaches Association
All-Catholic Banquet, Lycoming men’s basketball senior guard
Patrick Baylor (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) was among the
among award winners highlighted at the esteemed event. With
current Warrior mentor Don Friday on hand, Baylor gladly
accepted the College Achievement Award for his outstanding
contributions as a basketball player, student, and respected
member of the Lycoming College community.
Also in
attendance was former Lycoming standout and alumnus Carl
Arrigale ’88. Arrigale is the current head coach of
Neumann-Goretti High School, the two-time defending PCL
champions. Two of his high profile players are set to attend
St. Joseph’s University and Syracuse University.
The event,
held at Keenan’s Valley Restaurant in Roxborough, Pa., on April
26, brings together all 16 teams from the Philadelphia Catholic
League’s Northern and Southern Divisions. Legendary high school
and college coach Speedy Morris (currently the head coach at
storied St. Joseph’s Prep) emceed the event and set the tone for
the night’s festivities before those familiar with the award
winners announced the honors. Baylor, a 2002 graduate of
Cardinal O’Hara High School (Southern Division), was presented
his award by COHS head coach Bud Gardler.
"I am very proud of Patrick Baylor the person, student, and
player,” explained Coach Friday. “We at Lycoming College have
had a privileged four years being able to call Patrick one of
our own. He is a credit to his outstanding parents, Jack and
Claire, and the many fine people associated with the Cardinal
O'Hara School System and the Philadelphia Diocese. The
Philadelphia Catholic League is one of the finest scholastic
conferences in the nation. It is comprised of great people and
great basketball players. They couldn't honor a finer alumnus
than Patrick Baylor.”
Baylor’s PCL honor continues a highly successful postseason
awards run for Warrior basketball, which enjoyed its end of the
banquet only a few days earlier. At the team event, Baylor was
honored with the Dutch Burch Award, named in
honor of
legendary head coach Dutch Burch, recognizes a player for
outstanding spirit, dedication, and defensive intensity.
Described as “the heart and soul” of the Warriors, Baylor gladly
accepted the recognition from Coach Burch and his son, Seth.
