Third Showdown with Scranton on Tap
Box Score
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. --- The Lycoming men's basketball took its fate into its own
hands on Saturday after noon as the Warriors defeated Delaware
Valley College 93-85 in the final
game of the 2005-06 regular
season. Lycoming improves to 15-10 overall, 9-5 in Freedom
Conference play while the Aggies fall to 5-20, 2-12.
The
victory also propels the Warriors into the postseason and a
third match up with the University of Scranton. Scranton
earned the #1 seed with a 64-56 victory over DeSales University
earlier in the day. King's College picked up the second
seed with a victory at FDU-Florham, and Wilkes University
secured the third position by downing Drew University.
Senior
Jonathan Pribble (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) paced
five Warriors in double figures with 24 points to go with 12
rebounds for his second straight double-double. Pribble
now has 1,964 points in his career ranking him second all-time
at Lycoming. Fellow fourth year star Brad Musser
(Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) also proved doubly successful
with 10 points and 10 assists, furthering his margin as the
Warrior men's basketball career assists king. He now has
428 to his credit.
Sophomore
Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) canned four
three-pointers on the way to 18 points and seven rebounds.
Freshman Greg Sye (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) continued
his late season dominance with 16 points while pulling down four
boards and blocking two shots. Sophomore Dave Wilson
(Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) ca
me off the bench with a very
productive 11 points to go with six assists and five rebounds.
Isaiah
Pinckney led five Aggies in double-figures with 19 points
including a few nice driving lay-ups. Forward Zack Van
Dyke dropped in 16 points to go with 11 boards, and Pat
Lenehan and Maurice Slaughter chipped in 14
apiece. Slaughter also pulled down 10 rebounds. Jason
Seipt added 10 points.
Game
plans and half-court sets were thrown to fire immediately as
Delaware Valley pushed the pedal to the floor from the outset,
subbing in full "hockey-style" line shifts as they ran
up and down the court the entire game.
Much
to their credit, the Warriors seemed unphased by the unexpected
change in tactic as they roared out to a 9-0 lead with just 1:32
gone. The lead eventually hit 11-0 before the Aggies
switched on the lights on the visitor's side of the scoreboard.
The
game-pace and scoring frequency maintained at a high level with
Lycoming going into the half up 59-39.
Lycoming
continued its scoring punch into the second half, opening its
first 25-point lead at 73-48 following Pribble's final regular
season three-point hit with 14:31 to play. Pribble put an
exclamation point on the afternoon in pushing the Warriors out
to its second 25-point margin at the 5:13 mark with an emphatic
reverse dunk for an 89-64 advantage.
Lycoming
subbed out its seniors over the next minute, and emptied the
bench shortly thereafter, riding out the margin through the
remainder of the contest.
