Lycoming Defeats Elmira
Warriors at .500 Going into Penn College Game
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—The men’s basketball team overcame Elmira
60-55 on Saturday in Elmira. With the win, Lycoming evens its record at
4-4 going into Tuesday’s crosstown match-up with Pennsylvania
College of Technology.
Junior guard David Wilson (Pottsville, PA) led the
Warriors with a season-high 21 points. Wilson, who averaged
double-digits in Lycoming’s first five games, shot an astounding
70% from the floor and seven of eight from the free throw line.
Forward Greg Sye (Chantilly, VA) put up 13 points and
barely missed his third double-double of the season, grabbing
nine rebounds. Wilson and fellow co-captain Matt McGair (Mt.
Laurel, NJ) each swiped five boards.
The Warriors were up by as much as nine points until three
minutes before halftime, when Elmira’s Joe Prunier hit
two foul shots to knot the score at 17. A last-minute bucket by
Sye put Lycoming up 22-19 at the half.
The Soaring Eagles were pesky and, although they were behind for
most of the game, managed to tie the score at 47 with six
minutes to go. A three-point play by Wilson, followed by
a three-pointer by Jemayne Nowlin (Gaithersburg, MD)
reestablished Lycoming’s cushion and the Warriors closed out the
game on top.
On Tuesday, December 19 (changed date), Lycoming welcomes
crosstown rival Penn College to Lamade Gymnasium for a 7:00 p.m.
battle for Billtown bragging rights. There will be no women’s
game prior to tip-off. Then, on Thursday, the men host
Shenandoah (Va.) at 7:00 p.m.
