Lycoming Almost Upsets Scranton
Morris Scores 20 for the Warriors

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming (12-12, 5-8) fell by a score of 65-58 to Freedom Conference playoff-bound Scranton (19-5, 10-3) on Thursday, February 15. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed because of snow.

Despite the cold weather, Warrior Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, PA) maintained his hot hand, hitting three three-pointers on his way to 20 points on the night. Morris also sank seven of nine free throws. But it was his three-pointer with 2:11 to go in the game that electrified the crowd and tied the game at 56.

After being down 37-24 at the half, it seemed like Lycoming might pull off a second-half upset for the second game in a row. However, the Royals answered with a three-pointer of their own and hit all of their foul shots down the stretch to secure a victory on the road.

Three Warriors grabbed six rebounds apiece.Sophomore Anthony Watson (Philadelphia, PA), junior Matt McGair (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and freshman Rickey Varnell (Patterson, NY) all snagged a half-dozen boards. Varnell started his second game in a row, because sophomore Greg Sye (Chantilly, VA) is nursing a sore right thumb. Sye played, scoring four points on the night, while Varnell also looked good in the starting role.

Lycoming’s second leading scorer was Jemayne Nowlin (Gaithersburg, MD) with eight points and a pair of steals. Scranton’s Randy Arnold scored 18 points, while Paul Biagioli notched 15, including three buckets from beyond the arc.

The Warriors last game of the season will be this Saturday at Delaware Valley. The Freedom Conference match-up begins at 3:00 p.m.
