“College
Town” Rivalry Heats Up
Lycoming Hosts Penn
College on Tuesday Night
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Williamsport promotes itself as “College Town, Pa.” to
prospective students and visiting families. Well, on Tuesday,
December 19, two College Town teams meet on the hardwood of
Lamade Gymnasium. The Lycoming Warriors host the Pennsylvania
College of Technology Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. in an exciting
crosstown match-up.
Each team lists
three Williamsport-area players on their roster. Lycoming’s
Trevor Whaley and Billy Goodell have been valuable
coming in off the bench, while Penn College’s Matt Michaels
is a member of the Wildcats’ starting five.
This is the
third consecutive year these teams have met. Last season,
Lycoming won soundly, 69-43. The Warriors’ Greg Sye
(Chantilly, VA) had four blocks and David Wilson
(Pottsville, PA) scored 16 points. Both players look to
produce again in this year’s contest. Penn College’s Matt
Melusky, who is not on this year’s team, led the Wildcats
with 12 points.
Two
seasons ago, Lycoming withstood an emotional effort by the
Wildcats to secure a 67-65 victory. Penn College kept it close
with long range shooting and sheer determination. As a freshman,
current Warrior starter Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, PA)
recorded 14 points.
This past
weekend, Lycoming’s women’s basketball team defeated the Lady
Wildcats 70-64 at the Elmira Tournament.
