Lycoming
Battles Division One Lafayette
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming took on a big foe on Thursday night,
traveling to NCAA division I Lafayette. The Warriors played
tough but eventually fell 72-54.
Lafayette,
who plays the likes of Bucknell, Notre Dame and Indiana, jumped
to an 11-2 lead to start the game, when Jemayne Nowlin
(Gaithersburg, MD) hit the first of his four three-pointers
to spark the blue and gold. Greg Sye (Chantilly, VA)
followed with a layup and the Warriors looked to make a run.
However, the Leopards scored seven unanswered points to
reestablish their big lead.
Throughout
the game, head coach Don Friday’s team showed true grit battling
back to single digit deficits. Following Lafayette’s seven-point
run, David Wilson (Pottsville, PA) and Kevin Morris
(Camp Hill, PA) hit back-to-back jumpers to keep the pace.
But Leopard Bilal Abdullah answered with a three-pointer.
This would prove the theme of the evening as the powerful
Leopards kept the gritty Warriors at bay while Lafayette’s lead
grew..
Nowlin
and Sye led Lycoming with 13 points each. Nowlin
was Friday’s big threat from three-point land, hitting
75% of his bombs. Wilson and Anthony Watson
(Philadelphia, PA) distributed the ball with three assists
apiece.
The Warriors
travel to Susquehanna on Sunday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. game.
Lycoming’s next home contest is versus crosstown rival Penn
College on Tuesday December 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Lamade Gymnasium.
