WARRIOR
MEN’S BASKETBALL STUNS MARYMOUNT AT THE BUZZER
ARLINGTON, Va.
– Jonathan Pribble (So./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain)
scored 41 points and hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the
Lycoming College men’s basketball team an 81-79 victory over
Marymount University, Thursday evening. The Warriors came back
from 18 points down in the second half to stun the Saints. The
victory was Lycoming’s third consecutive and improves their
record to 8-2 on the season. Marymount falls to 2-9 with the loss.
The Warriors
scored the first six points of the contest but the Saints quickly
tied the game up and then used a 22-6 run midway through the
period to open up a 15-point advantage.
Leading by 14
at the half, Marymount extended the margin to 18 points just four
minutes into the second period. Lycoming, however, responded with
a 16-0 run over the next four minutes to pull within two of the
home team. Pribble sparked the run with seven consecutive points.
After the Saints finally hit a basket to break the run, Pribble
added four more points to knot the game at 58-58.
The last ten
minutes were a dogfight with five ties and seven lead changes. As
the game entered the final 60 seconds, L.J. Huggler (Sr./St.
Marys, Pa.; St. Marys) made a layup to give the Warriors a
78-77 lead. Marymount missed a three-point attempt on the ensuing
possession but Carson Robins pulled down an offensive rebound and
teammate Carlton Phelps was fouled. He calmly sunk two free throws
to give the Saints a 79-78 lead with 16 seconds to play.
Lycoming
inbounded the ball and called a timeout with 12 seconds to play to
set their strategy. The Warriors fumbled the ball setting up the
play, but Shaun Morris (Jr./Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity)
recovered the ball with five seconds to play and found Pribble
open for the triple at the buzzer.
Pribble’s 41
points led all players and set a new career-high – just two
nights after scoring a then career-high 35 points. Huggler added
20 points and five rebounds. Morris led the squad with 10 assists
and Derrick Dull (Fr./Ephrata, Pa.; Ephrata) led the team
with seven rebounds.
Kip McCoy was
Marymount’s leading scorer with 15 points, while Ed Carrai added
14 markers.
Lycoming will
return home for their next contest versus Susquehanna University
on Sunday, January 11. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
