WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team
hosted New Jersey City University, Wednesday evening, for a
non-conference contest. The game was a rematch of last season’s
second round NCAA playoff tilt in which the Gothic Knights
eliminated the Warriors from the post-season. Lycoming enacted
some measure of revenge, this evening, defeating New Jersey City
71-55. The Warriors improve to 6-0 on the season, while the
Gothic Knights fall to 4-3.
Lycoming
scored the game’s first seven points, but New Jersey City was
able to keep the game tight for a while trailing just 23-18 with
six minutes to play in the first half. The Warriors, however,
outscored the Gothic Knights 15-6 the rest of the period and
went to the locker room leading 38-24.
New Jersey
City scored the first eight points of the second half to pull
within six, but it was all Lycoming after that. Jonathan
Pribble (Jr./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain) hit a
three-pointer for the Warriors’ first points of the half and
sparked a 12-0 run that gave the home team a 50-32 lead with 13
minutes to play. Lycoming’s advantage grew to as many as 25
before cruising to a 16-point victory.
Pribble was
the Warriors leading scorer with 22 points. Kevin Morris
(Fr./Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity) added 18 markers, including
four three-pointers. Shaun Morris (Sr./Camp Hill, Pa.;
Trinity) contributed nine assists – moving into second
all-time for career assists at Lycoming. Patrick Baylor
(Jr./Broomall, Pa.; Cardinal O’Hara) came off the bench to
lead the team with seven rebounds.
The Gothic
Knights were led by Javier Rodriguez (Sr./Perth Amboy, N.J.;
Perth Amboy) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Devin
Davis (So./Red Bank, N.J.; Red Bank Regional) and Abraham
Williams (So./Jersey City, N.J.; Lincoln) each added 13
points. Davis also grabbed eight rebounds.
The Warriors
will play again on Saturday, December 11, when they travel to
Susquehanna University for another non-conference game. Tip-off
is at 1 p.m. |
