COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES 2004 RECRUITING CLASS
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball
program will welcome a group of six student-athletes to the team
for the 2004-2005 season following a successful recruiting
campaign.
“We’re very
excited to welcome six outstanding student-athletes to the
Warrior basketball family,” said Head Coach Don Friday. “This
group has excelled both in the classroom and on the court, and
all six come from winning programs. I’m confident they are going
to provide the versatility and depth we need heading into the
2004-2005 Freedom Conference title defense.”
Kevin Arvai
(Monassas, Va.; Osbourn) – 6’0” Guard
Arvai was a three-time letter winner at Osbourn
High School in Virginia and earned all-district honors both his
junior and senior seasons. Last year, he averaged 8.5 points,
3.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game. Arvai plans to major in
biology at Lycoming.
“Kevin played in a very good program that
competes in one of the top basketball areas across the nation –
Northern Virginia,” said Friday. “Kevin has a great
understanding of the game and plays with a high level of
intensity at both ends of the floor.”
Matt McGair
(Mt. Laurel, N.J.; Moorestown) – 6’5” Forward
McGair was a three-time letter winner at
Moorestown High School in New Jersey, where he played for his
father Steve. McGair earned All-Burlington County Liberty
Division honors both his junior and senior seasons. He was also
named a South Jersey All-Star his senior year. Last season,
McGair averaged 12 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 blocks
while leading his team to a record of 15-10 as captain.
“Matt was a cornerstone of one of the top high
school programs in south Jersey,” said Friday. “We look for Matt
to use his versatility both in the low post and also stepping
out to the perimeter.”
Kevin Morris
(Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity) – 6’6” Forward
Morris was a four-year letter winner at Trinity
High School where he won four Mid-Penn Keystone championships,
four District 3 AA championships, and two PIAA Double-A state
championships. He was named to the Harrisburg Patriot News
Big-15 and the All-Mid-Penn Keystone first-team, as well as
earning MVP honors at the District-3 AA tournament in 2003.
Morris averaged 19.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.1
steals per game his senior season. He will join older brother
Shaun on the Warriors’ roster and plans to major in business at
Lycoming.
“Kevin was a key contributor on one of the premier high school
programs in Pennsylvania,” said Friday. “He will add another
dimension to our offense with his range and ability to score.
We’re happy that Kevin chose to continue the tradition of a fine
basketball family at Lycoming.”
Dave Pearson
(Strasburg, Pa.; Lampeter-Strasburg) – 6’8” Forward
Pearson was a three-time letter winner at
Lampeter-Strasburg High School where he holds the school record
for career blocked shots with 444. Pearson averaged 16 points, 9
rebounds, and 6 blocks per game as a senior; and was named a
section-two All-Star.
“Dave is an extremely mobile big-man who has a
variety of skills,” said Friday. “His learning curve will be
directly related to his work in the weight room as he adjusts to
the strength and speed of the college game.”
Dave Wilson
(Pottsville, Pa.; Pottsville) – 6’3” Guard
Wilson was a two-time letter winner at
Pottsville Area High School and earned All-Area honors both his
junior and senior seasons. He was also a first-team
All-Anthracite selection and his team MVP his senior year.
Wilson averaged 18 points and five rebounds per game last
season.
“We’re extremely excited to have Dave as a part
of the Warrior basketball family,” said Friday. “His rapid
growth the past two years vaulted Pottsville High School among
the top programs in their league. Dave’s strength and
athleticism will ease his transition to the college game.”
Greg
Wonderly (Wilcox, Pa.; Johnsonburg) – 6’7” Forward
Wonderly was a four-time letter winner at
Johnsonburg Area High School, where he led the team to a 26-5
record his senior year. He twice earned all-league honors and
averaged 8 points and 9 rebounds last season. Wonderly plans to
major in pre-physical therapy and pharmacy at Lycoming.
“We’re very excited about the combination of
Greg’s size and skill,” said Friday. “He was one of the anchors
for a team that advanced to the western Pennsylvania
championship last season. Greg has the ability to score from
different areas of our offensive system and is also a gifted
passer.” |
