LYCOMING COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES 2004 RECRUITING CLASS

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball program will welcome a group of six student-athletes to the team for the 2004-2005 season following a successful recruiting campaign.

“We’re very excited to welcome six outstanding student-athletes to the Warrior basketball family,” said Head Coach Don Friday. “This group has excelled both in the classroom and on the court, and all six come from winning programs. I’m confident they are going to provide the versatility and depth we need heading into the 2004-2005 Freedom Conference title defense.”

Kevin Arvai (Monassas, Va.; Osbourn) – 6’0” Guard
Arvai was a three-time letter winner at Osbourn High School in Virginia and earned all-district honors both his junior and senior seasons. Last year, he averaged 8.5 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game. Arvai plans to major in biology at Lycoming.

“Kevin played in a very good program that competes in one of the top basketball areas across the nation – Northern Virginia,” said Friday. “Kevin has a great understanding of the game and plays with a high level of intensity at both ends of the floor.”

Matt McGair (Mt. Laurel, N.J.; Moorestown) – 6’5” Forward
McGair was a three-time letter winner at Moorestown High School in New Jersey, where he played for his father Steve. McGair earned All-Burlington County Liberty Division honors both his junior and senior seasons. He was also named a South Jersey All-Star his senior year. Last season, McGair averaged 12 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 blocks while leading his team to a record of 15-10 as captain.

“Matt was a cornerstone of one of the top high school programs in south Jersey,” said Friday. “We look for Matt to use his versatility both in the low post and also stepping out to the perimeter.”

Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity) – 6’6” Forward
Morris was a four-year letter winner at Trinity High School where he won four Mid-Penn Keystone championships, four District 3 AA championships, and two PIAA Double-A state championships. He was named to the Harrisburg Patriot News Big-15 and the All-Mid-Penn Keystone first-team, as well as earning MVP honors at the District-3 AA tournament in 2003. Morris averaged 19.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.1 steals per game his senior season. He will join older brother Shaun on the Warriors’ roster and plans to major in business at Lycoming.

“Kevin was a key contributor on one of the premier high school programs in Pennsylvania,” said Friday. “He will add another dimension to our offense with his range and ability to score. We’re happy that Kevin chose to continue the tradition of a fine basketball family at Lycoming.”

Dave Pearson (Strasburg, Pa.; Lampeter-Strasburg) – 6’8” Forward
Pearson was a three-time letter winner at Lampeter-Strasburg High School where he holds the school record for career blocked shots with 444. Pearson averaged 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 blocks per game as a senior; and was named a section-two All-Star.

“Dave is an extremely mobile big-man who has a variety of skills,” said Friday. “His learning curve will be directly related to his work in the weight room as he adjusts to the strength and speed of the college game.”

Dave Wilson (Pottsville, Pa.; Pottsville) – 6’3” Guard
Wilson was a two-time letter winner at Pottsville Area High School and earned All-Area honors both his junior and senior seasons. He was also a first-team All-Anthracite selection and his team MVP his senior year. Wilson averaged 18 points and five rebounds per game last season.

“We’re extremely excited to have Dave as a part of the Warrior basketball family,” said Friday. “His rapid growth the past two years vaulted Pottsville High School among the top programs in their league. Dave’s strength and athleticism will ease his transition to the college game.”

Greg Wonderly (Wilcox, Pa.; Johnsonburg) – 6’7” Forward
Wonderly was a four-time letter winner at Johnsonburg Area High School, where he led the team to a 26-5 record his senior year. He twice earned all-league honors and averaged 8 points and 9 rebounds last season. Wonderly plans to major in pre-physical therapy and pharmacy at Lycoming.

“We’re very excited about the combination of Greg’s size and skill,” said Friday. “He was one of the anchors for a team that advanced to the western Pennsylvania championship last season. Greg has the ability to score from different areas of our offensive system and is also a gifted passer.”
