WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s
basketball team hosted the University of Scranton, Wednesday
evening, for a Freedom Conference contest. The Warriors
withstood a second-half comeback by the Royals to pull out an
80-77 victory. Lycoming improves to 14-5 overall and 6-2 within
the conference with the win. Scranton falls to 3-17 and 1-8.
The Warriors dominated the paint in the first
half, shooting 60% from the field and out-rebounding the Royals
22-13 to build a 40-29 halftime lead. Scranton’s deficit could
have been worse if not for 6-of-13 shooting from three-point
range.
In the second half, Lycoming continued to control
the inside game, but 14 turnovers by the Warriors and nine more
triples for the Royals got the visitors right back in the game.
Lycoming led by 11 with 3:28 to play, but a 7-0 run by Scranton
made the score 73-69 with 2:27 showing on the clock. The Royals
pulled within three when Sean Clark followed a pair of Warrior
free throws with another three-pointer. The comeback would end
there, however, as both teams traded lay-ups to complete the
scoring in the game.
Jeremiah Edison (Jr./Mifflinburg, Pa.;
Mifflinburg)
scored a career-high 22 points to lead all players in the
contest. He also grabbed six rebounds. L.J. Huggler (Sr./St.
Mary’s, Pa.; St. Mary’s) added 18 points and four rebounds
from the inside. Matt Stackhouse (Sr./Hughesville, Pa.;
Hughesville) played his first game in nearly a month and
posted 13 points and nine rebounds in 17 minutes of action.
Jonathan Pribble (So./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain) gave
Lycoming four players in double-digits with 12 points and six
rebounds. Curtis Mays (So./Philadelphia, Pa.; University
City) led the team with eight assists and four steals to go
with six points.
Scranton had five players in double figures led
by Matthew Snyder with 17, including five three-pointers. Brian
O’Donnell added 16 points and eight rebounds, Mike McGowan
tallied 15 points, Patrick Clabby chipped in 12 markers, and
Sean Clark contributed 10 points.
The Warriors will travel to Delaware Valley
College on Saturday, February 7, for their next game.
